I was a patron at that exact spot where you have pictures of the large brass containers. However, I thought it was a tea shop, and it appeared instead to be some kind of herbal remedy place. Do you know what that was they were serving there?

yes! it was herbal tea. for instance one of them was 'five flower tea' - a traditional herbal tea meant to be drank in summer, as it's supposed to cool you down.

sam says that shop also sells a guilin gao herbal jelly that is made from two different kinds of chinese herbs mixed with turtle shell poweder. it's also supposed to cool you down.

so it sounds like it sort of like a fancy chinese lemonade stand - cools you down on a hot day - or when you're in a big hot town located in the tropics.
