Great advertising

Cutaway of the wall to see the pipes. Elephant brand pipes. Because who wouldn't want an elephant in the walls of their house?

Brilliant advertising. I still remember these blue elephant pipes whenever I see PVC tubes around town.

Sukhothai - Si Satchanalai - Wat Chang Lom

I don't know what it is about adding elephants to a temple, but it always seems to make it more enjoyable. 'Chang' means elephant in Thai, and more than one of the temples we've visited during our time here has that word in the name of the temple. From what it looks like, the hardest parts of a gigantic stone or concrete elephant to build and keep intact are the trunks and tusks. Angkor Thom had a few pretty intact, but they built the trunks more or less as columns.

Chiang Mai - Wat Chiang Mun

Wat Chiang Mun is the oldest temple in Chiang Mai (which is saying something) - parts are about 700 years old. And much of it is wood - very old wood. Very peaceful. You'll see the elephant theme repeat later in Sukhothai.

Chiang Mai - Maesa elephant camp III

We went on an elephant ride, which was actually really fun. It was surprising how high in the air we went, and you could really feel how strong the elephant was as it tiptoed up the muddy trail. Our rider took a picture or two of us, and let Sam take a picture of him.
