Chiang Mai - Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

On the top of a mountain overlooking Chiang Mai, at the top of a 300+ stair staircase, likes Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. It had beautiful views of Chiang Mai town from the top - you can see how sprawling and quaint it is.

Chiang Mai - Sunday walking street

One of the main streets in the old part of Chiang Mai fills with vendors every Sunday to provide the 'Sunday Walking Street'. They sell food, souvenirs, all sorts of things. Markets generally only keep my attention for so long, so I have about as many pictures of the market for you as the Chiang Mai city wall (the bees knees, I'm sure, before the age of the cannon) and our massage. Except for the enormous blob of grass jelly - that was great. I kept imaging it growing and eating everything at the market as people ran away screaming, like in the movie. That helped me focus.

Chiang Mai - Wat Phra Singh

Wat Phra Singh is one of the most popular temples in Chiang Mai. It's very old, very wood, and very sparkly. And people outside sell lottery tickets, and little caged birds that you can pay to release. Because caged birds are bad, and free birds are good, but putting free birds in cages for ransom is ok apparently.

Chiang Mai - Wat Chiang Mun

Wat Chiang Mun is the oldest temple in Chiang Mai (which is saying something) - parts are about 700 years old. And much of it is wood - very old wood. Very peaceful. You'll see the elephant theme repeat later in Sukhothai.

We went on an elephant ride, which was actually really fun. It was surprising how high in the air we went, and you could really feel how strong the elephant was as it tiptoed up the muddy trail. Our rider took a picture or two of us, and let Sam take a picture of him.
