A grasshopper on the window of the train to Sukhothai - hang on tight! Just a prelude of things to come...
Geckos in our hotel room.
Little frogs!
And guppies!
Ants and cats.
And a millipede.
And then, there were lizards:
Sukhothai is a somewhat more rural setting in some ways than Chiang Mai in that the town itself is a bit smaller. Here were just a few of the many critters we saw around town. And heard! Each night, a chorus of amphibians lulled us to sleep. It was grand.
from that picture, the guppies look like they might be gambusia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosquitofish which are sort of dull. how big were they and were there colors on the tail?
the guppies were about 2" or so. i think there may have been a bit of color on the tail, but overall there wasn't a lot of color. i thought they were tadpoles at first so they were pretty dull.
2" is big for guppies, but they could have been something like swordtails or mollies and you would never know looking from the top. Definitely poeciliidae though. I like the duckweed. Very pretty.

i should say that gambusia aren't something that you would find in the midwest, but here in texas they are in every puddle.
