Cambodia - Banteay Srei I

Banteay Srei was one of the few temples we saw in Siem Reap that wasn't built by a king, and it was the smallest complex we saw.  Yet its carvings were positively exquisite - you see the pictures of the wood carvings?  Well, that's not wood - that's sandstone - but even up close, you can't tell.  Wow.  One of the family members that ran our hotel was very happy to hear that we were going to see Banteay Srei during our stay, because apparently many people who go to the Angkor temples don't bother.  Well - if you're ever there, bother to do so - very much worth it!

Walking down the path leading up to the temple was fun for us, because it bore a striking resemblance to the Roman Forum.  Not sure if it was the spacing, or the feel on the feet, or the temperature each place was when we visited - it was just a case of deja vu.  The Roman Forum did beat these stones to the punch by about 1000 years, but still, kudos.

Someday I'd like to hear the story behind the cow statue that's been sheared in half, the hard way.
