We spent Songkran holiday (Thai New Year's - a five-days-off long weekend) in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Our aim was to see some of the famous Angkor temples in the area, and relax a bit.
We had a great time, and it turned out our timing was good - there were some protests in Bangkok while we were gone that were more or less finished by the time we returned.
Here's Sam arriving in Siem Reap, and here are pictures of our hotel there - the Central Boutique Angkor Hotel. It was a pleasant, family-run hotel that was centrally located - we liked it. Khmer New Year is also this week, so there were decorations out at the hotel and around town for that, which was fun. There wasn't any of the 'constant water fight on the streets' mayhem of Songkran in Siem Reap like there is in Bangkok and many other Thai towns, though. In fact, we didn't see any water fights at all our whole time there.
I'll be posting blog entries about Cambodia alongside posts about Thailand - there are a lot of pictures from both places to show!
